Is there any reference to this word originating from French piédestal or Italian piedistallo, as affirmed in the lead? Considering that pedestal is spelled exactly the same way in Spanish and Portuguese, it makes much more sense to believe it's a loanword from one of these two languages. —capmo (talk) 17:16, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
