Welcome to the eighth Bugle for 2020!

This month is the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and start of the post-war era. To mark the occasion, Nick-D has provided an op-ed discussing Wikipedia's coverage of 1945 and how it could be improved. The regular book review section includes links to an external review of a work about the end of the war, as well as some other reviews of recent books on military history topics.

After several months where few articles were promoted to A-class, no fewer than 12 were added in July! It was also a busy month for featured content, with seven new FAs and a pair of FPs. The article news section covers these impressive articles and images.

Welcome to Csimmons5945, Sg413, CalderRC, R34p3r2006, Pr0kchop, StanProg, WvanZyl, Emicho's Avenger, DeltaSquad833 and Blackwater-Bradfield1900 who all joined the project in July. Please feel free to reach out to any member of the project if you have any questions at all.

Finally, the current coordinator tranche ends at the end of September, nominations for positions will be called for at the beginning of September followed by voting commencing mid-month. If you would like to contribute to keeping the project wheels turning, why not have a look at the Academy articles becoming a coordinator and advice from former coordinators and if you think you fit the bill, nominate yourself? You could always ask a former coordinator or one of the current tranche for their input. We are always looking for enthusiastic project members to pitch in and help run things.

Milestones

Congratulations to Vanamonde on receiving their first A-Class Medal. Whilst they are not a member of the project, their excellent work on Central American topics is well-known to many members, and their contribution to an underrepresented area on Wikipedia is greatly appreciated.

In reviewing news, Hog Farm recently completed their 150th Good Article Nomination review. Pretty impressive effort for someone who only recently joined the project and has been editing for less than a year! Well done and thanks for your contributions to the project's amazing throughput of quality articles. And well done to Eddie891 who recently completed their 75th Good Article Nomination review.

Awards and honours

Contest department

  • The July round of the article improvement contest attracted nine participants, with 109 articles being improved. First place went to Lineagegeek with 200 points from 41 articles and they were awarded the Wikichevrons. Sturmvogel_66 came second with 141 points from 36 articles, for which they received the Writer's Barnstar. Also scoring were Catlemur, Djmaschek, Gog the Mild, Hog Farm, Kges1901, Parsecboy, Peacemaker67 and Zawed. Congratulations and thanks to all participants. You can self-assess up to C-class for the contest, but B-class assessments need to be done by another editor. This is best organised by posting at WP:MHAR. Make sure to add your entries for the August contest as soon as they are promoted, this allows the coords to check them progressively.
