When should we apply for admin[edit]

Hello I`m Priyam Gupta, want to create, edit and delete some of the civil engineering pages and categories, but deletion and creation requires admin tag. So, when should I apply for admin, and how to apply ffor it. Please giude us; Thanks in advance. Prymshbmg (talk) 12:03, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. Please refer to the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship on how to apply to be an administrator. RedWolf (talk) 05:59, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for guidance but, I should should apply now or later according to your point of view, as I have contributed only 160 some edits.Prymshbmg (talk) 12:20, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • A low number of edits may be seen as insufficient experience to be an administrator although the quality of edits is also an important factor. I suggest reading Advice for RfA candidates to evaluate whether you are ready. At this point, I advise waiting until later to apply and continue with making contributions to Wikipedia. When you apply to be an administrator, your edit history will be scrutinized by those evaluating your request. So, keep the "advice" page(s) in mind when making edits and how you conduct yourself on talk pages. Make sure to reference appropriate sources when editing/creating articles. You need to demonstrate through your past actions on Wikipedia that you are ready to take on the additional responsibilities of an administrator. Happy editing. Thank you, I will wait and try to contibute more. Thanks again. Prymshbmg (talk) 17:42, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Continue discussion of merging Infobox mountain range[edit]

I took the liberty to copy your design points into WT:WikiProject Mountains#Nomination for merging of Template:Infobox mountain range. I'll respond shortly (I want to start on the prep work, first). Sorry for the delay --- WP is taking a back seat to other priorities in my life :-) —hike395 (talk) 04:09, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bot account[edit]

Hi. I am a BAG (Bot Approval Group) member and I would like to ask if your bot account User:CanisRufus is still active. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 09:52, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. I haven't run any bot type tasks with CanisRufus in a while but the software is still setup to run it at any time. RedWolf (talk) 04:51, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates for mountains[edit]

Hi Redwolf - I just made the article Loriu Plateau, and am going to be making many more articles, hopefully, documenting the geography of northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. In Loriu Plateau I tried to copy a template to demonstrate where the feature is located, while changing the coordinates. However, the image on the article still shows a different location (farther south), even though in the article text itself I changed those coordinates. Do you have any advice? I want to make sure I'm getting this right for Loriu and other, future articles. All best, -Darouet (talk) 03:35, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. Looks like you figured it out. When specifying km and metres, it's best to use the {{convert}} template so measurements are given in both metric and imperial units. RedWolf (talk) 05:51, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mountain infobox style[edit]

Hello. Regarding this edit. A while back I got into the habit (usually anyway) of entering infobox parameters in the order in which they are visibly displayed on output. It just seemed the natural way to do it.

I have noticed in your edits you tend to put the map parameters below location and range and above the coordinates. I wouldn't mind doing it that way from now on, but could you please explain if it is important for it to be in that particular order? Or is it just a personal style preference? --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 00:03, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. Nothing wrong with entering the infobox parameters in the order they are displayed; the order though can be easily changed in the future. To me it makes more sense to group the range, parent peak and listing together, then location followed by the map parameters. When I see article AAA w/o a location map, I can go into it's "Mountains of YYY" category to find page BBB with an existing map and then copy/paste the map parameters from BBB to AAA but don't usually want to include the location since it's usually already in AAA. While the location and listing values between AAA and BBB have a better chance of being the same when in the same "Mountains of YYY" category, the range and especially the parent peak are less likely to be. So just makes it easier/quicker to copy/paste the map parameters if the other parameters are not interspersed among them. So the order I use is a personal preference based on making infobox maintenance easier, especially when dealing with the map. RedWolf (talk) 18:21, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I appreciate the explanation. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 20:20, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gaurishankar[edit]

Hello. I may need some help with this page. There are some problems with the move of the page from Gauri Sankar to Gaurishankar and the susequent changes. The talk page wasn't moved for some reason. See the new redirect talk page Talk:Gauri Sankar, and see also Talk:Gaurishankar, the content of which I assume is from the old redirect. Suntalkha (talk · contribs) has also changed a file name, now broken as a result, and has changed the name of a source article contrary to what the article actually says. All this was done unilaterally without any consensus.

Not sure how to go about fixing it. Should I undo the move and revert everything? How are talk pages normally handled with moves like this? Did the talk page not move because the redirect talk page history was non-empty?

Thanks. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 19:07, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. Thanks for the heads up on the change. Been quite busy the past few weeks with real life tasks dealing with Spring but just started a discussion at Talk:Gaurishankar. The user created the talk page and then did the page move so the software probably prevented the move of the old talk page. I'll have to find the process on how to deal with this because the talk page of the old name should be a redirect (if consensus is to let the page move stand).
