Thanks for fixing the conversion value

Two decimal points - who'd have thought that would screw things up? Thanks for catching it and fixing it for me. Work dared interrupt my day at a bad time. Kinda surprised there isn't a bot that can go grab the most recent conversion rate and update the CurrentRate page. There's got to be several other conversion templates out there. Manually, that template goes months between updates. Ankitbhatt's a bit hot that I called him out earlier on his tone towards a few other editors - nothing big. Thanks again though! Ravensfire (talk) 17:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

'Tis no problem. Templates affect a lot of articles, better to be extra careful. Yeah, its surprising that it isn't automated. Its not practical to change it manually. No one asks for last decimal precision, but the Rupee lost 5 whole rupees over the dollar recently, and that's really huge. Its quite stable now, so not much of an immediate worry I guess. Lynch7 17:44, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
What would you think about adding a call to the INRConvert template in the nowiki section of the CurrentRate page? That would give a way to test the conversion rate change by hitting preview, but won't affect the main template because it would be in the nowiki section. Just trying to prevent my mistake from happening again. Ravensfire (talk) 18:21, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Seems a perfectly acceptable option, if it works that is; I'm thinking it won't (am too lazy to try it out ;) ). I'm not the best at coding though. Lynch7 18:30, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I'll post a question on the village pump about it. A quick preview suggested it should work, but I'll hit some of the experts to verify it, just to be sure. Thanks again! Ravensfire (talk) 18:41, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
You could also ask if there's a way to automatically get the exchange rates from the web, Lynch7 18:47, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Non-English titles

Hi. What languages are non-English titles in Indian articles included? Do we include the titles in the official language of the state the place belongs or the even in the language that is spoken widely in that place? Belgaum for eg, should a Marathi title be included or only a Kannada one? Thanks,  Abhishek  Talk 16:28, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

There is no policy or guideline regarding that as yet. So far, we have been debating it on a case-by-case basis. Very broadly speaking, it makes sense to include official language and widely spoken language. In Belgaum's case, Kannada and Marathi would make more sense. I am against all of this though, we waste hours of time just to include something which is not needed at all, and is simply not useful. If people want to read in Kannada or Hindi, they'd go to those Wikipedias. People come here to read in English, and any translation given should just be for aiding pronunciation, in cases where other forms of pronunciation help (IPA or voice help) is not available. I'm giving a talk on this in WCI2011 actually :P Lynch7 17:10, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Recently I semiprotected Rani Mukerji due to the activities of an IP who keeps reverting the article without waiting for consensus. Edit warring with multiple IP addresses also violates the WP:SOCK policy. Now the IP is fulminating on the article talk page and engaging in what appear to be personal attacks. Since you've been active on the talk page, what would you think of semiprotection of the talk page for a period of time? Do you see the IP as having any good-faith concerns or are they just a warrior? Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 16:50, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

As far as I can see, the IP has been here a long time, and if we semi the talk page, he will find a way to target User:Shshshsh more innovatively. So looking from that angle, I wouldn't recommend protecting it. The IP appears to have some amount of good faith concerns, however small a percentage that may be. Though of course, it depends on what Shahid has to say. Lynch7 16:58, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Feedback Dashboard task force

Hi MikeLynch,

Since you were a part of the WikiGuides project, I thought I'd give you a heads-up about a new way you can help/mentor newbies on en.wiki: we've recently released a feature called the Feedback Dashboard, a queue that updates in real time with feedback and editing questions from new registered contributors who have attempted to make at least one edit. Steven Walling and I are putting together a task force for experienced Wikipedians who might be interested in monitoring the queue and responding to the feedback: details are here at Wikipedia:Feedback Dashboard. Please sign up if you're interested in helping out! Thanks, Maryana (WMF) (talk) 22:02, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Responding to RFCs

Remember that RFCs are part of Dispute Resolution and at times may take place in a heated environment. Cinefundas

Hi, I'm in need of an image of this actor. I see quite a few images in WP taken from this website with their permission. Can you elaborate more on this process. --Commander (Ping me) 12:01, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

The image in the infobox of Karthi is under copyright, and used under a free use rationale; hence not freely reusable. Do you want to know about the reuse mechanism of that image? Lynch7 15:34, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
No. I'm not talking about that image. [1] and [2] are taken from cinefundas.com with their permission. I just wanted to have an image for the actor which can be obtained from this website. —Commander (Ping me) 17:06, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I was wondering what "Cinefundas" in the section header meant :P . Anyway, I have verified the OTRS ticket associated with Cinefundas, and by that, all images from Cinefundas are reusable under CC-BY-SA 3.0 . So you may upload any image from Cinefundas. While uploading, be sure to mention this in the permissions field: {{OTRS|2011020710001425}}. That will insert the OTRS permission tag. Lynch7 17:43, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Correction, its CC-BY 3.0 . Lynch7 17:56, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
