The Sailors Creed is not a pledge taken by anyone. The Oath of Enlistment is a pledge. The Sailors Creed is only a guide to live by as a member of the United States Navy. No one swears to it like you would a pledge or an oath. It is merely a tool created by an Admiral whose tenure as CNO was not memorable for anything good so he created it to be remembered for something. How can it be considerd a tradition when it wasn't even created until 1992? A tradition is something like bell bottom trousers, the neckerchief and the white hat which our higher ups who never wore them keep trying to do away with. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.3.19.1 (talkcontribs)

I agree with you 100%! It's NOT a pledge in any sense. I removed that BS, added in some ACTUAL references and history, and etc.

Now, I'm looking at adding in some criticisms... a LOT of students resent having to recite it every morning before class. I HATE making my students recite it, cuz it cheapens the words. Unfortunately, I'm kinda afraid I'll get too carried away and violate Neutral Point of View
