Arbereshe ethnicity[edit]

@TU-nor: Arbereshe are "an ethnic and linguistic Albanian minority community" in Italy.They are not an ethnic group,they are part of Albanians.Rolandi+ (talk) 11:35, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mention of renaming of town[edit]

I reverted your edits so you can see the talkpage. Why is the renaming of the town by Mussolini relevant to the biography of Schiro? For the moment i will assume good faith that this is not POV pushing and will await a sufficient reason to be given that is inline with Wikipedia policy (see: Wikipedia:Out of scope). I am interested to know considering that the renaming matter has been covered in the main article of about the town and that renamings are not mentioned time and time again for other biography articles. What does Schiro have to do with it (peer reviewed source?)? Also why are you insistent on referring to the town as "Arbereshe speaking" ? These people do identify as Arbereshe and not "Arbereshe speaking", alongside their Italian identity. Why the Arbereshe speaking?Resnjari (talk) 17:39, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The only one POV pushing seems to be you, just have a look at your own talk page. When Schiro was born the town was called Piana dei Greci. If you don't want the renaming in the article, fine with me. The town is Arabesh speaking, because it part of Italy; there is no country called Arabesh. What distinguishes the town from other towns is that a substantial amount of people speak Arabeshe. - DonCalo (talk) 17:58, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DonCalo:One, what does my talkpage have to do with anything. Those editors have long said they will sanction me and it has come to nothing when they did so in front of the administrators (who took no note of one and dismissed the others attempts as "irrelevant") as i base myself on peer reviewed material and Wikipedia policy. Nonetheless i am supportive of all those who believe i am in need of sanctions and can do in the appropriate forums. I will make my case accordingly. As for your comment i am glad with regards to the renaming part being irrelevant to this article and its removal made permanent. However about the other stuff, first of its spelt Arberesh(e), not "Arabesh"(the Arberesh are not "Arabs" in case there is some semantic confusion) and secondly what are you basing this comment of "nation" on? While thirdly what does "nation" bit have to do with this article ? What's your peer reviewed source/s ? They do form a community and it has been cited as such by themselves, in scholarship and outlined on the Arbereshe Wikipedia article through those peer reviewed sources. Wikipedia does have polices regarding neutrality too (Wikipedia:Neutral point of view). Your comments are of concern as it against that spirit and please do not make Original research assertions (See Wikipedia:No original research.Resnjari (talk) 18:30, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is ok the way it is now; we don't need to tell that Mussolini hated Greeks and renamed the village - by the way we don't know exactly why it was renamed, only that was renamed while Duce was in power, and it is outside the scope of the article. Could have been that they wanted themselves the name to change. There is another village near Avellino called Greci, Mussolini did not care to change that, and that does not make them less Albanians or more. --Mondiad (talk) 20:24, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Mondiad:. Always a voice of reason. Mussolini seemed to have had a dislike of the town from earlier though. The mafia boss Francesco Cuccia of Piana annoyed Mussolini in the early 1920s which sparked a crackdown. The previous name of the village was due people of the Orthodox rite being called Greeks when the Arberesh first came to the area (Alfio Lanaia, Lo schipetaro, il truffatore e il balbuziente : alcuni prestiti albanesi nel siciliano?, 2008)p. 141. "Come sappiamo, gli abitanti dei paesi vicini chiamavano i coloni arbéreshè con l'etnonimo di "greci" o "grecioti" e “Casale dei Greci” era il nome del nucleo urbano da essi abitato, prima che si affermasse l’attuale toponiimo di Biancavilla. Allo stesso modo anche il paese attuale di Piana degli Albanesi, nel Palermitano, era chiamato fino al 1941Piana dei Greci, <a motive del rito religioso> [As we know, the inhabitants of the neighboring areas called the Arbereshe settlers with the ethnonym of "Greek" or "grecioti" and "House of the Greeks" was the name of the urban centre inhabited by them, before they claimed the current toponym Biancavilla. Likewise the present village of Piana degli Albanesi, in Palermo, was called up to 1941 Piana dei Greci, <due to the religious rite>]" [1], [2]. The name stuck for the settlement until changed in 1941. The current day's town name reflects the local Arberesh name of the village Hora e Arbereshevet or village of the Albanians which has remained consistent throughout their settlement in the area. The Greci was locals trying to make sense of them. Anyway separate to that, Mondiad i have my email on my Albanian Wikipedia talkpage.
