Catholic-Hierarchy.org

Hello. I noticed that you have edited a number of articles on Catholicism. A discussion is taking place as to whether the website Catholic-Hierarchy.org is a reliable source that can be utilized on Wikipedia or whether all references and information derived from it should be deleted. This topic is currently being discussed at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard [1]. As the website's removal as a reference will affect several thousand Wikipedia articles, I believe that the broadest range of opinions should be obtained before action is taken. Please contribute if interested.Patapsco913 (talk) 22:07, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Lorino

Hi Xufanc, Are you sure you have dealt with Lorino correctly. Currently it seems that Lorino redirects to Lorino (disambiguation), which itself now redirects to Lorino, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, which contains a hatnote that redirects to itself. None of those edits make any sense to me. If I understand things correctly, "Lorino (disambiguation)", should have been moved to "Lorino" and changed to a set index, along the same lines as this, with an {{otherplaces3}} placed at Lorino, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to direct people to the index. Am I missing something? Fenix down (talk) 14:28, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Moving content around

You must say in the edit summary were it is from. Best Doc James (talkcontribsemail) 22:57, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

The history section was from pages Wa States and Panlong Subtownship which I had written previously too. Granted, there might be moving of text in pages on the different Myanmar administrative divisions and on the former Shan States made by me during the past three years, but it is all part of the same personal effort. I am not preying on the efforts of others by "copying without attribution" (if this is the implied message in your radical annihilation of my effort in page Pan Lon). Kudlik

Before you move it you should start a discussion on the talk page. The title you picked was one I'd never heard of before. Moving to an odd title just because other Arctic people use various terms is probably not a good idea. Take a look at Inuksuk which has three other Eskimo-Aleut languages words and an English word. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 18:37, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

There is no equivalent word in English, but the term "seal-oil lamp" is widely used in academic writings on Arctic cultures. I think it is far better than the imposition of a weird foreign word with an obsolete spelling. But as per my policy I do not wish to engage in discussions when there are strong feelings involved; in this case against having a descriptive English term as a title. Contests

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:39, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:01, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Bristol Island

Thanks for the tip on Bristol Island, naming convention on islands is generally not to put alternative language names in as well. I mean where do you stop? Argentine editors for some reason are obsessive about putting the "Spanish" names into our articles, they're not always correct as sometimes they're not official. The Argentine Government has a committee that does nothing but think up names for features in the South Atlantic as part of their claims but they're not endorsed by RAE. Thanks, WCMemail 08:10, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the consideration and the explanation. I have no love lost for Argentine editors. Like in Isla de los Estados, where I added the alternative name Staten Island much used in 18th and 19th century historical documents, my only aim is to make a little room for the display of historical names as well. Xufanc (talk) 05:13, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Their other obsession is Rio de la Plata, rather than River Plate. The English name has been virtually expunged from Wikipedia. WCMemail 07:52, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Xufanc. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Xufanc. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Prant, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Devopam (talk) 07:02, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

I have redirected it to Zillah (country subdivision). Thanks. Xufanc (talk) 10:25, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Blas Ruiz

Hi, noticed you put references for the Blas Ruiz article- the source is in Portuguese, but I was wondering if it contained any physical description of Lan Xang? Blas Ruiz and Diogo Veloso were the first recorded Western visitors to the kingdom. Most sources on the subject only talk about Gerrit van Wuysthoff who came about 50 years later... Cut and paste moves

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Roquetes, Tarragona a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Roquetes. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. 65.94.168.229 (talk) 12:38, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
