The Second American Civil War, commonly referred to as the Forever Purge War or the Ever-After War (23 March 2048 - 4 July 2058), was a ten year long civil war within the United States of America, culminating in the collapse of the US government, the end of the New Founding Father's Party of America, and the balkanization of the continental United States of America. The war had begun suddenly, and US forces were quickly overwhelmed by the amount of violence done by a pro-purge, anti-government group known as the Ever-After Purgers. Two days after the War had begun, the entire US was placed under a state of emergency as martial law was declared a day previously.

A mere six hours since the start of the conflict, the New Founding Fathers had been blamed for the violence nationwide, which resulted in a splinter of anti-Forever Purge groups. This originally included two groups: the US government (the New Founding Fathers Party) and anti-government civilian militias. Due to this splinter, anti-Forever Purge groups were severely weakened, giving rise to such losses as the Fall of New York, Las Angeles, San Antonio, New Orleans, Miami, Phoenix and Seattle within the first week of the War. By this time, as the locations of top officials of the US government were unknown (including the President, Vice President and Speaker of the House and Senate), the US government had split into various factions due to infighting, which had given the Forever Purgers a vital boost in the beginning phases of the War.

Anti-purge activity severely diminished during the first two years of the conflict, commonly referred to as the Purge Surge. Most urban areas were at least under de-facto control of Forever Purge militias (except for Washington D.C., remaining the last NFFA stronghold). However, it was after this point in time that the tide began to turn in the War, kicked off by the end of the Battle of New York, being freed by anti-Purge groups after two years of guerrilla war. However, due to two years of government pushback and losses, many new movements grew that were regional in nature, or weren't looking for the restoration of the US government.

Over the next five years, all areas of the US would see never-ending war, at the direct expense of the Forever-Purge movement. In this five year period, the Republics of Texas, New York, Florida, as well as the Californian and Southwest Confederations, would be declared, as would see large scale success against the Purgers. The end of the this period, known as the Purge Pushback, would occur with the final Battle of New Orleans, ending the last city under control of the Purge movement.

The next three years would see a relative calmness over the American continent, however warfare still continued. Known as the Final Purge Movement, small-scale activity by pro-Purge groups continued throughout the newly established countries, however the biggest guerrilla movement would occur in what was the Northwest United States by the Neo-Purgers (A neo-Nazi splinter of the Forever Purgers), who wished to establish a white supremacist state in the Northwest. This endeavor would fail, however, and after three more years, the last areas of Neo-Purgers and any other Purge group would be forcibly dismantled, finally ending the Second American Civil War.

Notorious trials were held thereafter (although the first official trials had begun in 2055), which convicted and tried over four thousand Forever Purgers for various crimes committed during the War. It was during these trials that Ben Gardner, a Forever Purge follower and commander who had participated in the Battle of New Orleans (and is largely credited for its fall into the hands of the Purgers) had revealed once classified documents by high level Forever Purgers. These documents, known as the Orleans Cache, revealed plans for large-scale extermination and "removal" of non-white populations of the US after a hypothetical victory by the Forever Purgers. Ben Gardner, and ten other men, were tried for attempt to commit genocide, and hanged in 2059.

The start of the War had a profound impact on global politics. Its sudden start meant no one was prepared for what was about to ensue, and because of that over 150 top companies (once the richest in the world) quickly went bankrupt. With the sudden devalue of the US dollar, markets crashed worldwide, and the unemployement rate skyrocketed to 35% globally. The Civil War is still seen as a primary reason for the various revolutions and civil wars that broke out after March of 2048.

The prelude to the conflict has been studied long since the end of the War, although specific reasons for the War are debated. Most studies done point to a slow but gradual radicalization of the American public since the rise of the New Founding Fathers. Contributing factors to the war include: pre-purge destabilization in the US, rise of anti-Purge groups, increasing wealth gaps and disparities since the First Purge, the assassination of Esme Carmona, the election of Charlie Roan, and the 2049 presidential election.

The overall view of the Purge movement, however, alongside the Civil War, is seen by some as a last attempt to save global free market capitalism, which, due to the conflict, had been permanently altered in the decades following the Civil War. With the decline of the free market before the war, coupled with its collapse, the end of the Civil War also brought a post-capitalist new world order, one that is still changing in this day and age.
