Age when she died/ Year of birth[edit]

Got a source that says Zoe Laskari was 73 when she died, crowned a beauty queen in 1959 when she was 15. Another gives her date of birth as 12 December 1944.

Plus the biography on her personal website has her date of birth as December 12, 1944 (12 Δεκεμβρίου 1944). --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 11:35, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure but a personal website is self-published and unreliable. If she was shedding some years from her age a personal website is hardly an objective, reliable source for that particular info. Quis separabit? 12:22, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Malcolmxl5: -- Absolutely we must discuss the year of birth. No one owns any article. I went with the reliable source provided when she died, which gave her age as 75, which led to a 1941 year of birth. Older than I had thought but actors often lie about their ages.
If more reliable sources indicate she was 73 then we should change it and add these reflinks, and maybe Category:Age controversies. But -- if she was 73, then that should make her year of birth (given the December date of birth) 1943, not 1944, based on the simple mathematics, unless the sources are all just making approximations or are based on the year 1944 with no attention being paid to the actual date.
Or, as I should have realized, if she was born in 1944, then her December date of birth would make her 72 at time of death as per this apparently reliable link. Quis separabit? 12:39, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So I restored 1944 as her year of birth and 72 automatically comes as age at death based on the infobox parameter calculator, but I left Category:Age controversies just in case. Quis separabit? 12:47, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I'm good with 1944. Thank you both for your work. Dr. K. 14:43, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So we have sources saying that she's 72, 73 and 75. 😁 We have a reliable source, the Athens News Agency - Macedonian Press Agency (ANA-MPA), that gives her date of birth as 12 December 1944 but errs in saying she was 73 when she died! I take the point about the personal website, it's not acceptable as a source though WP:ABOUTSELF does permits the use of self-published sources about themselves in certain circumstances.
Interestingly, this article in the Greek Reporter says that she lied about her age when she was young: "...while visiting the United States, it was revealed that she was still legally a minor, lying about her true age" and in National Herald, the "...while in the United States, it was revealed that she was still legally a minor, having hidden her real age" so perhaps that's where the age of 75 originated.
Anyway, thank you both for your work on this article, I'm content. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 16:29, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Right, according to this link, which gives 72 as her age at death, she was a minor circa 1959, so that would appear to rule out 1941. It is unlikely she lied about the month of her birth rather than the year. Quis separabit? 23:25, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
