To-do list for Vermont:
There ought to be some mention of Vermont ranking roughly 5th for cost of rent and 35th for wages. In 2004, cost of rent had apparently fallen to | 22nd. Does standing above refer to a wage adjusted rent (affordability)? Need reference. |

Maple syrup[edit]
Noting Vermont as a major producer of maple syrup in the lead section may not be appropriate:
- It does not contribute to the summarizing character of a lead paragraph
- Violates NPOV due to maple syrup’s insignificance relative to other key facts about Vermont
- The information could be better consolidated in the section Economy
- Lead sections of other U.S. states are mostly limited to population distribution and geography
Therefore, I would consider this for revision but am not sure if this would be agreed upon. Any thoughts on this is appreciated. 2600:1700:FD0:E200:85B8:3F76:354:D519 (talk) 03:22, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yours is a legitimate concern. Nothing in the body of the article supports the "200 years" statement, nor does the article support "well known". However, the article says that maple syrup is the second-largest agricultural product, after dairy. Maple syrup is integral to the state's identity, so much so that the maple is the state tree. Under Agriculture/Other a sentence could be added to say, "The product is marketed as 'Vermont Maple Syrup' to capitalize on the state's identity and to emphasize its locale of production.ref: Meanings of Maple" The lead (last paragraph) could then say, "Maple syrup is an important product that is connected with the state's identity and is the second-most important agricultural product after dairy." 0.0% pop. growth is impossible.[edit]
I see a definite increase in population from 1880 to 1890
1880 | 332,286 | 0.5% | |
---|---|---|---|
1890 | 332,422 | 0.0% | |
1900 | 343,641 | 3.4% |
There's a growth of 136. Can someone fix this? I don't know how to edit tables yet. TheFluffyProto (talk) 23:06, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
Landlocked Vermont[edit]

- From Wiktionary: Landlocked (of a country, geographical region, etc.) Surrounded by land (having no borders with the sea). Lake Champlain is connected by canals to the St. Lawrence and Hudson Rivers. Sincerely, HopsonRoad (talk) 16:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery[edit]
It isn’t the most flattering thing to include in Residents > In fiction, but it’s noteworthy that Shirley Jackson’s iconic short fiction was written about a fictional town in her home state of Vermont… Jayske (talk) 13:41, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
