Turkish baths vs Hammams: The clogs, often called pattens, would be worn "to protect the foot from dirty water and soap" only in the hammam where bathers wash in the hot rooms. In Victorian Turkish baths, the pattens would only be wron to protect the feet from heat if the bath was heated by a hypocaust. They would not be needed in the Turkish bath as washing is not done in the hot rooms which remain dry and soapless. Can I suggest a couple of changes are needed to rectify this?
