Edits to infobox[edit]

As shown on Greenwich_&_Woolwich/ukpollingreport, the constituency was created in 1997, which is when Raynsford was elected; therefore there can be no predecessor. His current term thus started in 1997 - the five years preceding this, he was representative of a different constituency. (Technically, perhaps the current term should be listed as having started in 2010, when he was last re-elected?) ~ tajasel (talkcontribs) 14:44, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to User:SE7's comment, left on my Discussion page instead of here: I can't say I'm entirely convinced by the common practice described; it's basically giving false information to say that Raynsford had a predecessor when he was actually the first person to be elected into the seat called "Greenwich & Woolwich". I recognise the desire not to have a huge infobox, and see the byline stating that he was previously MP for Greenwich as reasonable, but it is factually incorrect and potentially confusing to users to say that he was
a) elected to Greenwich & Woolwich before the seat even existed;
b) that Rosie Barnes served in the seat before him.
As it does indeed appear to be "common practice" to have infoboxes display dates this way, I won't kick off an edit war, but I really do think this is a bad approach to listing predecessors and dates of elected terms and should be reconsidered. ~ tajasel (talkcontribs) 23:56, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it isn't perfect, and infoboxes should be made clearer, but there's unfortunately no middle way, as yet.SE7Talk/Contribs 00:34, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
