Main Page error reports

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 19:21 on 12 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

  • ... that social media influencer Andrew Tate described himself as "absolutely a misogynist"?. Per WP:DYKBLP, Hooks that unduly focus on negative aspects of living persons should be avoided.
If we go to the article, the statement has two sources. The latter, from The Independent, states In a video shared to his new website on Wednesday (23 August), Tate claimed that many of the criticisms levied at him are based on clips that have been “taken out of context”.
There was a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know/Archive_198#Andrew_Tate_nomination where this was decided upon, but of the four editors who stated this was a good hook (Courtesy ping @Guerillero, Valereee, Lightburst, and Bome sall 1:), I don't know if any saw Tate's statement about out of context quotes. Sincerely, Dilettante 18:14, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have reported this casual disregard for both WP:BLP policy and common sense at WP:ANI. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:24, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the issue was discussed quite a bit. Tate said he was "absolutely a misogynist" and that isn't a denial -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 18:27, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
the quote from the Independent doesn't and wasn't meant to directly address this quote. There's nothing undue about the hook, it represents the center and vast majority of RS coverage – especially when you consider that we kindly did not mention the sex trafficking charge. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 18:29, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But he does criticize out of context quotes, which this is. Sincerely, Dilettante 18:40, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can’t slander me because I will state right now that I am absolutely sexist and I’m absolutely a misogynist, and I have fuck you money and you can’t take that away is the full quote and there is no indication that he has ever disputed it. A blanket "some things are out of context" from the day before the article was written isn't refuting it. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 18:45, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dilettante, can you point to something that shows us this is out of context? I mean, did he say, "I was in a toxic relationship, and I was thinking 'You can’t slander me because I will state right now that I am absolutely sexist and I’m absolutely a misogynist, and I have fuck you money and you can’t take that away", and then I realized it was a me problem, not a them problem' or something? Valereee (talk) 18:51, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The video is self-contradictory. I don't have the time or the inclination to watch the full hour and find the quote, but he also says "No woman is alleging that I am a bad person or misogynist" [1] (not an RS), and that "he believes in "protecting women" and "championing women," and believes that "a man has certain roles in society, and a woman has certain roles in society.""[2] Whether or not I doubt the existence of his misogyny, it's certainly more complex than the quote reveals. It really wouldn't be hard to blurb something about his kickboxing or something else uncontroversial instead. Sincerely, Dilettante 19:05, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Given the long and thorough discussion at WT:DYK, I'm inclined to say that this hook is fine as is. Schwede66 19:18, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be fine with an independent party deleting my report and subsequent replies. It's clear it won't be changed or pulled and this discussion (and the parallel ANI) is generating more heat than light. Sincerely, Dilettante 19:20, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
