Series 1 episode 4

Unfortunately, in Series 1 Episode 4, Stephen doesn't announce the start of General Ignorance - this must have been edited out. I've placed the divide where I think is most logical. Dooky 21:26, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Detailed

This currently uses the table layout originally used in the QI article, but could be expanded to include the topics discussed. violet/riga (t) 17:30, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Good idea! It would certainly more useful than a list of guests, but what source would you suggest using? --Lox (t,c) 22:39, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
The QI talk forum might yield some results, but the one shown below was by me noting down the topics while watching the episode! (sad, indeed) violet/riga (t) 23:13, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
No, not that sad really, QI is a great program! I'll try and note down some topics for next time! --Lox (t,c) 09:27, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

I've created List of episodes of QI/detailed as an easier location for writing the detailed episode summaries. violet/riga (t) 22:51, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

This has now been merged in. violet/riga (t) 21:54, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Series 2 Xmas special

  • Helium affect on voice - tambre not pitch (sound travels faster)
tangent Health & Safety won't allow a demo
  • Santa and Emporer Penguins in common - come once a year
tangent Aristotle sex towards north strong/healthy babies
  • smoking life expectancy (-5 years) - cutting off testicles adds 13 years
  • barbers did castrations too (was illegal, explained as accident) - moresco (castrato) singing
  • animals present at birth of Jesus (there were none!)
  • the magi (there were not necessarily 3 of them, nor wise nor even male etc)
tangent Fry's interview with the president of Uganda (and David Frost!)
  • Herod's wife (Doris)
tangent Fry's grandfather on Pythagoras
  • number of heads did Jesus' grandmother have (7 - during the middle ages, her head was on display in seven churches)
  • how can you die and come back to life in 3 days? (water bears can)
tangent what special powers would panellist have?
  • "where's like, the coolest place in the universe, man?"
general ignorance - Davies and Fry change place, Davies asks the questions:
  • who plays goalkeeper for Aston Villa?
  • Mozart's middle name
  • how many states of matter?
  • which way does water drain in the northern hemisphere
  • what happens when penguins fly over head?
  • sacred animals in India

That only covers the first 10 minutes into it unfortunately. violet/riga (t) 01:12, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

I've just added a rough outline of the rest of the topics - I'm not sure exactly what you wanted, so please feel free to remove any extra info and ask for any clarification or additional info! I'll add the points later and we can then tidy it up! --Lox (t,c) 18:31, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Can we have the table back?

Hello, I'm the one that 1st added the episode list (in non table form, for series 1, to the main QI page). After that others improved it by turning it into a table, adding subsequent series and putting it on a separate page. But all this extra info is not an improvement as far as my required usage is concerned: all I want is a list of who was in each episode. Currently that info is very difficult to find amongst all the detail. I don't object to all the extra info being available, but please can the table be restored at the top of the page, as a sort of index? Maybe Wikipedia allows you to add links in the table to the relevant sections? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tower~enwiki (talkcontribs) 08:46, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Long article

Does anybody else think this article is getting overlong? It's not even completed yet, and additionally there's the new series coming up. How about splitting it up into one article per season? Gengulfus 10:50, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I'll be splitting it by season shortly; it was all combined to aid initial construction. violet/riga (t) 18:19, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
True the article is getting long so each series needs its own article, I have added a split template to the page. --London UK (talk) 23:10, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Wow!

thats very detailed! i like QI but man you people must love it! Think outside the box 14:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Certainly do! violet/riga (t) 13:57, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Pilot

Should the pilot episode summary come under the Series A page, this page or its own page? --Heycos 23:20, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Good question. I think that I would go for Series A myself. violet/riga (t) 10:46, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
I think it should be separate. Memassivbeast (talk) 19:40, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Into this article perhaps? As it this article is a little redundant, and should probably be merged into the main QI article. Rehevkor (talk) 19:33, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Deletion?

I was wondering if we need this list. Seeing as all the other QI episode lists have everything that is listed in this article, it seems somewhat redudant. Therefore, I would aruge that this deserves to be deleted. I'm thinking of putting it forward for deletion unless anyone has any objections. ISD (talk) 20:23, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you could. However, this is a start of page, like a 'diambiguation' that wiki have on various information. If this went, I wouldn't have able to get around the 'list of episodes'. Also, there is still alot wrong with the others. All the dates are wrong. And it's shitty narrative writing aswell. You can obviously tell its been written by more than one person, as it has different ways of expressing the written word. Some are more languistic than others and the one here is the bog standard one. Maybe we should summerise the episodes to make it 'more' notable. But i think it's alright as a direction thing. METALFREAK04 (talk) 09:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually the date on this article is correct. It is meant to show whent he programmes are broadcast, not when they are recorded. One idea could be to include a brief guide to all the episodes in this aritcle, in the form of tables. See other articles such as List of Seinfeld episodes or List of Peep Show episodes. ISD (talk) 11:57, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Series F start date

Radio Times claims that the QI edition shown on BBC2 on the last Friday night of September is a repeat from series C (nothing is scheduled for BBC4 either). I have therefore moved the projected start date to October. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.112.187.121 (talk) 09:30, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I have obtained quite reliable evidence which suggests that the show could be changing channels. Whether eventually on BBC 1 or 2, it seems that these discussions are what is delaying the start of the new series. I have amended the article accordingly with refs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.81.102.100 (talk) 12:51, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

BBC press office has now confirmed a move to BBC One in the new year (2009). Article updated accordingly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.70.44 (talk) 15:30, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Separating Pilot and Series A

Someone seperated the pilot and Series A into two seperate tables. Personally, I believe it is best to keep them together for the purposes of style and appearance. This has been done in some featured lists such as the List of Seinfeld episodes. ISD (talk) 08:04, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I disagree, my reasons being: The pilot is done in a different set, with different rounds and in general a very different tone to Series A The pilot has never been aired, the first episode in any syndicated run being "Adam" It is included on the Series A set, but as a Bonus Feature rather than an episode before "Adam" (for a similar example see List of Dollhouse episodes) It includes questions featured later in Series A

As far as any "canon" can be made regarding a panel show, I would say it is non-canon, and certainly not part of Series A, and should therefore be considered separate.

Series C

Someone's tinkered with the episode titles for series C, so far back in the history I can't find who or when, but they're definitely wrong. 'Cummingtonight'... yeah... Don't have the time to change them all myself, just an fyi PseudoNym 23:58, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

The title of that particular episode was actually "Cummingtonite", which is the name of a mineral found in a town called "Cummington". ISD (talk) 08:11, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm, okay. The episode list doesn't match the list I have, but your explanation is good enough for me PseudoNym 00:40, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

5 panellists for 'Ganimals' show

Anyone any idea why there were 5 panellists for this programme? Why was John Hodgman squeezed in as a 5th panellist and not instead just given a normal spot on a standard 4 panellist show? Martyn Smith (talk) 12:04, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

I think the reason was the Hodgman had appeared as a guest on The Museum of Curiosity which is made by the same people, and they put him on the show while they had the chance. ISD (talk) 12:34, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

The audience as winners

Because Stephen said that Clive was first place (and the other panellists as second, third and fourth), and acknowledged the audience as 'the real winners', i.e. unofficial winners, on last night's XL, would it be more accurate to put the panellist with the most points as the winner and note that the audience scored more as a footnote? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.48.236 (talk) 11:43, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

No. I think that as it was the audience which scored the most points, they were in fact the actual winners. ISD (talk) 15:40, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

100th episode

As per Stephen Fry's Twitter, episode 11 of the H series is considered the 100th recorded episode, not episode 10; hence, they don't count the pilot in their count. Should we label the pilot as episode '0'? Cwmxii (talk) 14:48, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

We should, as well as removing the count from the compliations. ISD (talk) 14:57, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Not publish winners?

Any chance we could NOT publish the show winners in the main episode listing? It's quite a spoiler. Move it to a separate list at the bottom of the page or something. Adam Reece (talk) 17:52, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not a contributor to this article so you'll have to excuse my chiming in, but I believe Wikipedia has been against hiding spoilers for a few years now in an effort to maintain an encyclopaedic tone (see WP:SPOILER for more info). Besides, does it really constitute a spoiler? I don't mean to speak for anybody but myself, but I've never considered the business of scoring to be particularly important in panel shows such as this.213.122.134.23 (talk) 16:52, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

rational for april 27th date

the cultural olimpics start april 23rd [ 1 ], there was a slightly more specific schedule that put the QI episode in April, and QI episodes usually air on friday evenings. --Vera (talk) 19:10, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Idleness

I had already seen this episode before it apparently premièred last night on BBC2, I know this one had been delayed, did it go up on Iplayer earlier in the year without a TV airing? Otherwise I cannot think why I would have already seen it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.251.252.109 (talk) 12:31, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

yes, they did have it up on iPlayer for about a day after it was originally scheduled to air. --Vera (talk) 23:22, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Series A Ep. 2 Astronomy: Winner - Bernadette David?

Who is Bernadette David who won this episode. I can only guess she was an audience member. Can this be clarified and made clear in the listing.82.25.214.168 (talk) 19:03, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Four panellists ?

OK, so there are always four panellists, including Alan Davies , plus Stephen Fry. So why am I watching an ep with Alan Davies, Bill Bailey, Sean Lock and TWO other people I don't know. That makes Five + Fry. Doesn't appear in the list of eps anywhere.Eregli bob (talk) 09:58, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

You're watching the second episode of Series G, "G Animals", on which John Hodgman was an "extra" panelist. Tfmisc (talk) 00:16, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

vandalized

The original airdates of the episodes Jolly and the first few of series K are almost certainly wrong, because at April 28th 2013, Jolly has been broadcast and series K has not. I do not have reliable information about this, but I next-episode.net says Jolly was broadcast Fri Jan 11, 2013. If you fix this, you´re my personal hero. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.96.225.60 (talk) 08:59, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Series J - how many episodes?

The entry here says 18, however the BBC website is numbering them out of 19. Can anyone clarify? Was the Christmas episode perhaps a bonus for this particular series? Pete3194 (talk) 00:14, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Title confusion

I understand that the titles of some early QI episodes were applied retroactively (like normal panel shows such as Have I Got News For You or 8 Out of 10 Cats, QI didn't originally give episodes a title). This may have been the source of some confusion. This article lists season 1 episode 9 under the title "Africa"; QI (A series) lists that episode under the title "Antelopes". The British Comedy Guide appears to use "Africa", but I would think there is some kind of official title in the A series DVD or in syndication which we would use as the source for this. Which title is correct? (Incidentally, I have nominated QI (A series) for deletion so it might not be around for long. But I can assure you it says S1E9 is called "Antelopes".)Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 17:56, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

The Noticeably Stouter Book of General Ignorance published by QI, which was what I originally went with when I put together the list for the British Comedy Guide. It might however be best to change it if this is what the official website is using. ISD (talk) 07:03, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, their website does use "Antelopes" ([2]) so maybe we should do. I think you could probably put a footnote, mentioning that it was called "Africa" in that book, though. — Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 07:10, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
OK, I've made the change. ISD (talk) 07:37, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Improper capitalization of "the" for Richard Coles

Why is the Reverend Richard Coles always shown as The Rev. Richard Coles? I can't see any reason why "the" should be capitalized. He's not Richard Coles, a.k.a. "The Reverend": his given name is Richard Coles, and he holds the rank of reverend, at least according to his page here on wikipedia. Dstarfire (talk) 06:17, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Series O Reference

I noticed that the source being used for Series O is this. I wrote that page, and can confirm that while the first episode is indeed correct, and "Ologies" does go out on 20th October at 22.00 on BBC Two, the rest of the episodes are not in any particular order. ISD (talk) 15:29, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

I don't have a reason to not believe what you are saying and since British Comedy Guide doesn't appear to be a reliable source (at least in this case), i'll remove the Series O airdates in the next minutes. Edit:  DoneRadiphus (talk) 15:43, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
New development - I've been given a press pack that details the episode order. The British Comedy Guide's episode page now lists the episodes in the correct order, although the dates and times cannot be said to be 100% accurate. ISD (talk) 07:55, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
I updated the episode order, but i also noticed some changes in the titles. Could you please confirm these are correct as well?
  • "Ova and Out" →‎ "Over and Ova"
  • "Odorous" →‎ "Odorous and Odious"
  • "O'Come" →‎ "O Christmas" (is there an apostrophe missing here?)
  • "Openings" →‎ "Origins and Openings"
  • "Objects" →‎ "Objects and Ornaments"
  • "Occult" →‎ "The Occult"
  • "Oddfellows" →‎ "Oddballs"
  • "Offices and Occupations" →‎ "Occupations and Offices"
Thank you. - Radiphus (talk) 11:18, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes, those are correct titles according to the press release. ISD (talk) 13:10, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Okay, great. Thanks. - Radiphus (talk) 13:12, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
If you want another source, the press release has been published on Chortle. ISD (talk) 15:48, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

I haven't seen any mention to an XL edition repeat of the episode on the BBC or the British Comedy Guide websites. Do we know anything about this irregularity? - Radiphus (talk) 06:50, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

I just noticed. They said on Twitter yesteday that "the QI XL version of this episode will be broadcast at a later date. Keep an eye out for announcements." - Radiphus (talk) 04:23, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Reverted Edits

@Radiphus: The style was inconsistent but a similar style can be replicated across the rest of the article. How is the note not trivial and violating WP:NOTTVGUIDE? Date of a future episode can be listed in the table once confirmed. Matt14451 (talk) 15:55, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Opinions requested regarding the colouration of the episode tables

I noticed that some of the background colours in the episode tables where not WCAG 2 AAA Compliant, so i had them changed to look like this in accordance with WP:COLOUR. Then i thought i could be more creative and tried to re-create a visible spectrum gradient, which looks like this. Do you think this is a good idea for the specific article? If this is something that could be maintained, i should explain how these colour codes where generated: You could use this tool, set Saturation to 100 and Lightness to 80, and then increase Hue by 15 (from 0 to 360) for each colour. For example, "Series O" HSL is (255, 100, 80) which corresponds to hex colour code #b299ff. For the the next season the HSL should be (270, 100, 80) which corresponds to hex colour code #cc99ff. - Radiphus (talk) 00:47, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Just saw this. I've used the same colour-scheme for the list of episodes at Taskmaster (TV series). Matt14451 (talk) 16:09, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
