Same franchise or no?[edit]

Is there any info about if the Greeneville Reds are a new franchise or if the Greeneville Reds is the former Greeneville Astros (Greenville Astros and the Greeneville Reds the same franchise)? The Greeneville Astros began as the Martinsville Phillies and then became the Martinsville Astros before becoming the Greeneville Astros.72.82.255.100 (talk) 06:39, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose one could argue it is the same franchise since the Reds now occupy the spot abandoned by the Astros. Looking at other Appy League clubs, they seem to have one article per city covering all previous teams. However, the only connections between the Reds and Astros are that they play in the same city and ballpark. They have different ownership, a different MLB parent, a different identity, and different employees. Maybe someone else has an opinion? NatureBoyMD (talk) 14:21, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the Appy League has the answer if you contact them by email.72.82.255.100 (talk) 16:43, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly, but I think separate articles (treating them like distinct franchises) is the best practice. As we categorize team articles by current and past MLB affiliates, it wouldn't look right to have the Greeneville Reds categorized as a former Houston Astros affiliate. So then we have to apply the same practice to all the Appy League teams? I disagree, if the Greeneville Astros and Greeneville Reds are the same franchise than it should be one article.72.82.255.100 (talk) 05:55, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Still, I don't think it is the same franchise. It isn't as if team ownership signed a new Player Development Contract with a new MLB team or sold to a different ownership group. The Astros vacated their Appy League franchise, and the league granted Cincinnati the rights to operate a franchise in their place. There is no carryover from the Astros to the Reds. ... Back to the Greenville Astros article, there are separate articles for the Martinsville Phillies and Martinsville Astros teams that proceeded it. The Greeneville Astros' infobox and prose acknowledges these prior teams but also presents each as a separate distinct franchise. NatureBoyMD (talk) 16:58, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
