unaired episode[edit]

the episode where ren hits george over the head with the oar was aired. I saw it a long time ago aired on Much More Music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.6.225.142 (talkcontribs)

Name Controversy[edit]

I have a feeling that the reason George Liquor's name was edited out has to do with the fact that "liquor" means alcohol, something Nickelodeon extremely rarely to NEVER MENTIONS.

Where George's name came from[edit]

The current explanation for George's genesis is supported in a partial scan of an article from 'Film Threat' on John K's own blog:

http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2007/09/kirk-greatest-hollywood-actor.html#links

In it's current context it is educational but does it qualify as a 'Citation'? Does the copyright of the original magazine mean it is invalid for a Wiki citation?

I would use the magazine for the citation, and I have seen other articles that do the same thing. But do you know where the rest of the magazine article is? It cuts off while they're talking about George Liquor. Gak Blimby 15:57, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

GA review (see here for criteria)

This is nice, with some good references, but there are some issues that keep it from meeting good article criteria.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
There are numerous spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation errors. Some wording is unclear and unencyclopedic.

  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
    See list below.
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  3. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  4. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  5. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  6. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
Lots of good work has gone into this article, but it still needs improvement, therefore I'm putting it on hold. Please see my list of other concerns below. Good luck!

1) I am almost certain "Dog Show" was shown on Nickelodeon. It may have even been before John K was fired. Do you know what sources Jayne Pilling used to say the episode was not aired? Do you have a second source?  Done clarified - Gak Blimby (talk) 17:28, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2) In "Dog Show", George introduced himself as "George" (pause for sound effect) "American". The sound effect was a record scratch used by Nickelodeon to censor "Liquor", making the character seem like he was named "George American". Some people refer to the character as "George American" because of this edit. This may be something worth noting, if you find sources of course.

3) When John K was fired from "Ren & Stimpy", it was widely publicized that it was because he routinely missed deadlines. John K has claimed he was never fired, Nickelodeon simply stopped paying him. However, the article says he claims to have been fired because of "Man's Best Friend". You may wish to verify and/or clarify this discrepancy. Clockster (talk) 09:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article review & Copyright Concerns[edit]

This article is not a Good Article. I corrected a few typos but there are still numerous problems of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Many sentences are repeats. For example, the last sentence of the Creation section is essentially the same as the last sentence of the Character section. There are several examples of poor writing, such as the phrase "him and the Spumco staff."

Further, there is a marked lack of clarity in this piece. The sentence "The Ren and Stimpy Show" was a series that Kricfalusi created." What kind of series? When stating that the show "ran" at Spumco, what do you mean: drawn, produced, managed?

Many facts are confusing. When John K's father is mentioned, do you mean his father or the character "Dad" from the show? When I read your sources, it seemed to indicate the character, not John K's actual father. Also, was the "Dog Show" episode broadcast or not? You say it was, but end the paragraph saying it wasn't.

Lastly, my biggest concern is that Gak Blimby in at least one case lifted an entire section from his source. The segment "Some fans of the series have insisted the rumor that George's last name was censored because an official at Nickelodeon believed that the name was not a reference to alcohol but a sexual act ("lick her"). Nickelodeon has denied this rumor but has not explained the censoring of George's last name" was taken straight from Forbidden Animation, as [1] shows. I have deleted that section for obvious reasons, but am concerned that there are other copyright issues going on here. Clockster (talk) 13:54, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't had a chance to do a lot of digging yet, but after a few moments discovered not only was some text lifted from Forbidden Animation, but much of this article is lifted from this site: http://www.amazines.com/The_Goddamn_George_Liquor_Program_related.html - I am removing the cv-unsure tag and posting this in the Wikipedia:Plagiarism page. Clockster (talk) 04:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
WAIT A MINUTE! OK, I admit that I copied more than I should have (it should've been none), however, the problem is solved, and I'm not going to ever make that mistake again. HOWEVER, I DID NOT COPY FROM AMAZINE! THAT CITE IS ONE OF WIKIPEDIA'S MANY MIRRORS THAT TOOK THIS ARTICLE! See for yourself. Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks/Abc - Gak Blimby (talk) 02:02, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your indignation is misplaced. You copied from "Forbidden Animation" verbatim, which is why I was checking for other possible copyright concerns in the first place. I admit that I mistakenly thought the amazines.com site did not mirror this article (as mentioned on my talk page, I assumed too much from spelling differences, and was mistaken about amazines being used as a source). Now that I'm sure it's a mirror, I will take this off the plagiarism list, and have no problem admitting the error -- without the use of all caps.
