Sense[edit]

See first para: "is the first of six branchial arches that develops in fetal life" (my italics). This is confusing. Is it the first of six brancial arches that develop (note the plural verb)? In other words, there are six that develop (note the plural verb) in foetal life, and this is one of them? Or is it one of six branchial arches per se and just this one develops in foetal life?

This is a common error if the former is meant. The correct usage is "the first of six . . . that develop" - "six that develop, the first of"; or take as another example, "one of the people who were there", or, put another way, "the people who were there, one of" (whereas you'd mostly see, erroneously, "one of the people who was there" - wrong). Human-centric definition[edit]

I propose moving the clause about the 4th week of development to a section about development in human embryos. The pahryngeal arches are found across vertebrates. Cmungall (talk) 22:30, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
