60 Hz only?[edit]

The article repeatedly mentions 60 Hz mains hum, which seems oddly specific, though I admit I'm not an electronics engineer of any sort. Is this really the case or is it mains hum in general? My inclination is to presume they'd work just as well with the 50 Hz mains found in much of the world but the article doesn't contain enough information to indicate whether or not this is the case.
