Hi

I am currently using Methylphenidate, I have ADD. I am a 35 year old male. I tend to day dream a bit, feel sluggish and can use a bit more energy to get through the day. Is Dextroamphetamine more suitable for me than the medication I am taking now? What is the difference between Methylphenidate and Dextroamphetamine? These medications both have medicinal as well as recreational features, and this makes my leading the change of prescription drug with my doctor questionable since I myself am not a doctor. What is the best way for me to adress my concern with my doctor about this situation? How effective can these drugs be in turning a persons life around?

Kind regards.

Robert N.

Hello. Please talk to a doctor about this, as Wikipedia does not wish to give out medical advice. --Merovingian (t) (c) (e) 12:30, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

No To Merging

Merging this article would be like merging methamphetamine and amphetamine. The two are distinctly different compounds, albeit very closely related. The fact that it is a stereoisomer makes a huge difference on the substance's effects on humans. One noted difference is the lower incidence of euphoric side effects (although in terms of recreational use, this would not be a side effect).

Adrenal fatigue

An editor wrote that dextroamphetamine can contribute to "adrenal fatigue." I have not found a reference for this comment after looking up PubMed, so I deleted this statement. Andrew73 18:17, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't you ever get adrenal fatigue? I get it, particularly on Friday afternoons, and mildly on Monday mornings.[1]. JFW | T@lk 20:43, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
"Adrenal fatigue" dosen't seem very accurate; a silly term. Norepinephrine exhaustion? Haha. --Refault 08:56, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup of Popular Culture

I've renamed Popular Culture to Trivia and removed several items where amphetamine is only a passing reference. I would like to trim it further but I'd like to see if there any objections first. I don't think there's any point in collecting a list of songs, books and movies which feature the drug. KonradG 23:56, 22 August 2006 (UTC) Konrad

I agree in a fashion. (I could "feel" that you were going to make the heading change.) Anyway, I don't think the article needs trivia, but rather notable cultural references (popular culture) that exemplify (show) use, abuse, public misconceptions, and so forth. That said, I am not tied to any current line items; I'd rather see no references than low-quality references "just because". I simply don't have the inclination to run them down and weight their worth. --Charles Gaudette 00:31, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't like the "Trivia" title either, but I didn't know what else to call it since Erdos doesn't really fit in under "popular culture". Perhaps "Notable Users"? KonradG 00:46, 23 August 2006 (UTC) Konrad
It is perfectly acceptable to have both "Popular Culture" and "Trivia". As you have found the two don't always intersect. They both co-exist in other articles (for example: Egg (food)). I would prioritize "Popular Culture" above "Trivia". --Charles Gaudette 01:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
