happy[edit]

I'd be happy to help but Bowes was a shocking coach and somewhere Don Mosey wrote about it in respect of D Pickles. He wrote well but was insufficiently analytical of the Yorkshire pantomime and traded in received wisdom. Express Deliveries is, along with Fowler and PM Walker, by miles the best player autobiography - in my view.

OK, see your talk page. Have to go now. 109.157.252.60 (talk) 10:07, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I note and I'll correct for forms sake - "Frequently edits from hotels, both in the UK and continental Europe. Formerly based in Powys, Wales, but recent IPs suggest relocation to Kidderminster in Worcestershire." I've never lived in Powys, been to Kidderminster in ten years or stayed in a hotel in the last fifteen years! I live in South Shropshire on the Herefordshire border — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.166.198 (talk) 10:58, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. IPs can be very misleading. I see my current IP geolocates to Lancashire (gulp!) and even if it manages to hit Yorkshire it is usually Wakefield, a good 75 minutes drive away. Sometimes it is Leeds which at least is on a direct railway route! Jack | talk page 12:56, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Personal details[edit]

Bowes in his autobiography gives next to no info about his family, other than a bit about his dad being a railwayman. Does anyone know anything about his wife and kids, like their names for example?? Thanks. Jack | talk page 18:22, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bowes' wife was called Esme. Named here. There's a pic of her and him, with a son, in the YP picture archives. Johnlp (talk) 21:12, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here's some OR for you. Mrs Bowes was Kathleen Esme May Staines, she was born in Harrow and they married in NW London in 1933; non-OR note above suggests she was known as Esme. Two children William Anthony J Bowes, born 1935, generally known as Tony Bowes, second eleven cricket for Yorkshire in Minor Counties/Second eleven competition in 1959, long-time player for Lidget Green in Bradford League and organiser of Bradford school cricket competitions. Daughter Vera A E Bowes born 1939. You should be able to "back-research" at least Tony Bowes: there are Bradford and Ilkley newspaper cuttings on t'internet that identify him as Bill Bowes' son. Brilliant. Thanks very much, John. I had figured that this chap might be Bill's son, given surname and Yorkshire connection plus the compatible date range, but as you can see CA provide very little info on him. Esme was a niece of the Beaumont family whom Bill lived with in Pinner during his MCC ground staff years; the Beaumonts were friends of his parents.
