Draft:Howard Warner High School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Howard Warner High School was a secondary school for African Americans in Newnan, Georgia. It closed after integration.[1] It was named for Howard Wallace Warner, a professor.[2] The building was used by the Board of Education[3] before being renovated for use as a community center.[4]

McClelland Academy preceded it.[5] A Presbyterian school modeled after Tuskegee Institute, it was built by Dr. B. L. Glenn and his wife for $3,500.[1] Franklin Gregg was the principal.[3] Its roof was torn off in a storm and the school closed.[6]

Willie the Tiger was the school mascot.
