Dr. Bilal Haider Abbasi (born January 9, 1975) is a tenured professor and researcher at the Department of Biotechnology, School of Biological Sciences, Quaid-I-Azam University, Pakistan.[1] He has significantly contributed to the field of biotechnology. His achievements include being selected for the prestigious Le-Studium Research Fellowship at Université de Tours, France, twice, in 2018-2019 and from May to December 2023.[2] One of Dr. Abbasi's areas of expertise lies in medicinal plant biotechnology. His expertise has been recognized by his inclusion in the Top 2% Scientist List by Stanford University in 2020.[3] He has also established and is incharge of the plant cell culture lab at the Department of Biotechnology, Quaid-i-Azam University.[4] He has received numerous accolades, such as the Performance Based Award from Quaid-i-Azam University in 2021 and 2014,[5] a Gold Medal for Biotechnology from the Pakistan Academy of Sciences in 2016,[6] and the Best Young Researcher Gold Medal from Quaid-i-Azam University in 2014.[7] Dr. Abbasi's research excellence is evident from his extensive publication record of 198 research articles with 6,564 citations on the Web of Science[8] and 11,208 citations on Google Scholar.[9] Dr. Abbasi has supervised 16 Ph.D. and 90 MPhil students.[10] He is an active member of scientific organizations like the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (since 2022),[11] the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (since 2014),[12] and the Pakistan Biological Safety Association.[13]
