Welcome to Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, ParisianBlade/Archive 1, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place and want to stick around. Feel free to contribute in any way you can. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make silly mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful, and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my talk page

Good luck! --Abb401 13:14, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there![edit]

Hi! Just dropping by to tell you good job on the vandalism reverting! Just one tip; when you're reverting vandal edits, try to check and see if you got it all. In this recent revision you got one layer but missed the rest. This can happen if one vandal IP vandalises over top a different vandal IP's edits (see here for an example). Thanks, and good job so far! Cheers, Master of Puppets Care to share? 00:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'll look for that in the future. Thanks.--Miss Pussy Galore (talk) 00:19, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Username[edit]

I understand the James bond ref, but I think you should consider changing your username, it being a reference to genitialia. If you don't, this account could be blocked. J-ſtanTalkContribs 00:13, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll consider it.--Miss Pussy Galore (talk) 03:41, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:CHU#Miss Pussy Galore → Urban Rose, this has not been done yet, a Bureaucrat has asked for clarification as to whether you still want the change. —Random832 18:12, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have no problem with your name. I would like to say that some may object or not take you seriously. Should you ever want to become an administrator, you may find editors who will object to your username. It is of course your choice and thank you for your good work.--Sandahl 21:28, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings[edit]

Hi there; could I ask you to study the parameters involved in the blocking of vandals? They are outlined on the WP:AIV page. Particularly, except in unusual circumstances, it is not appropriate to block after only a single warning; three, or preferably four warnings, are usual. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:51, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I'll look at it.--Urban Rose (talk) 21:03, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism..not you[edit]

I thought you would like this tool WP:TW. Follow the instructions carefully. It can be a dangerous tool if not used right. By the way, always check the edit before the vandalism you can miss things like this (check the one that came before it) when that occurs just do a normal revert and warn both users. If you need anything just ask. Rgoodermote  01:47, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing, I forgot to add is that it takes a lot of logic in figuring out what vandalism is. As a suggestion do what I did start out with what you know is not right and then start broadening your range as time goes on and you have read the guidelines of Wikipedia. Rgoodermote  01:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know you were using TW, sorry for that. I do not know where to start from there other than read the guidelines and familiarize your self with them as well as the WP pages out there. Rgoodermote  01:55, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Koliyivschina[edit]

I know my corrections seemed as a vandalism, but appearently you haven't even checked the references that is even listed for the article. As much as I do not wish to point to the obvious, but omitting even the smallest facts is equal to misinterpretation. But be as it may. My apology.Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 05:08, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I'm agreed:) I think the original user will fix it up anyway. Poem Haydamaky, which is quite tragical, by Taras G. Shevchenko (infamous Ukrainian poet and artist) in dark tones describes those times. Also very well it is covered in the History of Ukraine-Rus (Chapter 111th) by history professor Mikhailo Hrushevsky who also was the president of the Ukrainian People Republic (UPR) in 1919. His history book was first published in 1911 in Ukrainian, in 1913, Sankt-Peterburg in Russian, and the last one that was published by him exclusively was in Vienna, 1921. When UPR was sacked by the Red Army, he was jailed.

Wikipedia:Help Desk question. -Pages are automatically being added to my watchlist[edit]

Hi there,

I do vandalism reversion and I find that from time to time pages are automatically being added to my watchlist. This includes pages that I just reverted vandalism on and the talk pages of users that I've warned. Is their anything I can do to prevent this from happening? Thanks.--Urban Rose 19:24, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Because you use Twinkle, the autoconfig is to add pages to your watch list. Therefore please access: User:Thehelpfulone/new.js and copy that javascript into your monobook, located at: User:Urban_Rose/monobook.js. Before you do so, remove the existing importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js'); tag in the monobook. Once you have done this, clear the browser cache, and you are all set :). I hope this helps! Mainspace edit ideas[edit]

I suggest just clicking the "Random article" button. It will probably lead you to an article that needs some cleanup. When that palls, just look for redlinks wherever you are, and decide whether the redlinked topic needs an article, or the link needs to be changed to a different name for the same thing, or... There's millions of articles on Wikipedia, many crore of tasks that need doing. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:24, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Problem with lupin filter[edit]

Hi. Ever since I installed the new Twinkle Javascript I haven't been having trouble with pages being automatically added to my watchlist, but while using Lupin's RC filter, when I try to rollback an edit, I'm required to click the "save page" button now for the edit to process. Do you think that the new script could be causing this and is their anything I can do about it? Thanks.--Urban Rose 03:22, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Urban Rose,
The "New Twinkle" is actually the same Twinkle that you usually use, it is just configured so that pages are not added to the watch :list. Try moving Lupin's AVT to the bottom of your monobook.js, underneath your Twinkle config and then removing your browser cache. I am not sure what importScript("User:Lupin/autoedit.js"); is in my monobook.js, but you could also try adding that.
I hope this helps! The Helpful One (Talk) (Contribs) (Review) 11:53, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Or if that doesn't work - my own Lupin tools have been configured so they don't add pages to your watchlist - so feel free to copy it if you want :-) User:Scarian/monobook.js (I think you could copy from "TwinkleConfig" all the way down to importScript("User:Lupin/recent2.js");") - Good luck! James "Munky" Shaffer[edit]

Hello, I don't know why you don't consider my edit on Munky's page "constructive", but as of right now it really doesn't look like he'll return to Korn. Munky recently posted 2 Bulletins via his Labels MySpace:

"Subject: an explanation thru John Lennon

Body: if you want to better understand my departure, then listen to the words in the song "Watching the Wheels" by John Lennon. James."

"Jan 19, 2008 2:46 AM Subject: Another John Lennon Analogy... Body: Listen to the John Lennon song "Nobody Loves You". Please post comments only....3 more songs to go. Thank you all for your support.......James."

Now, if you read the lyrics to those songs, you get the picture. So to me "most probably he'll return to Korn after the Tour" sounds wrong because no one has ever said that and Munky himself never said anything about his Father being ill. So when you revert someone's edits next time, try to look into the facts first. I'm not even a Korn fan, I just saw those Bulletins and thought I'd delete that blatant lie and speculation on Munky's page. Virus of Profanity (talk) 12:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to hear about your RfA, friend. Excellent, I shall try my best to be your coach :-) - Okay admin recall... basically, the community gives you the responsibility of being an admin. Some admins are openly transparent about their accountability which is what recall is. If you agree to put yourself in the recall category... it basically means if several contributors (or even just one) thinks that you haven't been honest/doing so great as an admin you'll basically agree to do another RfA to see what the community thinks of your actions. In short: You put yourself in recall. Someone thinks you've done a bad thing. They recall you. The community attempts to gather consensus on whether you should still have the tools or not. I would suggest, if you ever went up for an RfA again, that you put yourself up for recall. It shows that you're an honest and open contributor not afraid to be accountable for your decisions. Sorry for the wordy reply. I hope it makes sense. What sort of things are you looking to gain experience upon? If you have any questions or want me to make this explanation clearer (I probably wouldn't even understand it myself) please don't hesitate to contact me. Take care! Experience.[edit]

1) - There's no defined amount... watch out for WP:EDITCOUNTITIS... I'm sure you've heard of it. I would probably say... 3000-5000... but it's more quality over quantity. I think you could judge it by amount of months... say 3-4 more? You're not that far off.
2) - Probably 2/4 of them should be mainspace. 1/4 shed out on Wiki-space. 1/4 on talk space. But that's only a very, very rough guide. Don't follow it to the letter. You should make edits in whatever space you make edits in :-) - there's no real guide to define what you should do.
3) - Hmm... be more active at WP:ANI. Go new page patrolling and tag articles for speedy deletion (Read the criteria first just in case). Get the rollbacker at WP:ROLL if you haven't already got it. It makes vandalism reverts so much faster. Being active at WP:RfA would also give you a strong idea of what people expect. Take part in deletion debates at WP:AfD (Try and use policies in your decisions e.g. I think x should be deleted because it fails WP:MUSIC criterion 4 etc.).
4) - If you want article writing experience try WP:AfC. There you can look through requested articles and see if they're notable enough to be in Wikipedia (Look for multiple reliable sources for a start). This will show that you have good judgement on being able to see what articles should be in Wikipedia. Easy main space activities? WP:AWB can go through articles making simple corrections quickly. But it has limits; it takes a while to get used to, I would only recommend making 2-3 edits with it per minute and I wouldn't use it for just removing/adding whitespace. Just clicking on 'random article' and editing an article can give you quick/simple mainspace edits. Occasionally, look up news paper articles on an article on Wikipedia and see if you can add a source. A lot of users over at RfA look positively on people who add sources. That's what Wikipedia is all about. Making sure everything has references.
Okay, this is wordy again, my apologies. I hope everything is clear and not too obscure. If you need anything else please don't hesitate to ask me. I'm usually always around. Take care! ScarianCall me Pat 20:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Alternative to Lupin's tool[edit]

Huggle is explained in depth here. I am providing you with this link because, seen as I do not use this tool, I cannot explain it properly myself. I use the admin rollback tool, but I can tell you that Huggle is extremely fast and effecient. I suggest also taking a look at Wikipedia:TWINKLE, although this tool does not work with Internet Explorer, but rather, Mosilla Firebox. See if any of those tools are suitable for what you want. Lradrama 20:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean you e-mailed a request for Huggle? I don't exactly know how long it will take, because the user who created it (Gurch) seems to be inactive at the moment (I know that is something you really didn't need to hear...Lupin anyone?) but like most other tools, some other Wikipedians will be operating it too. Let me know if you do not get a reply to the e-mail within a few days, and I'll not only investigate the matter for you, but see about other alternative tools. Lradrama 16:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, brilliant. And how are you finding it? Lradrama 17:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, and I'm glad you like it. It is a much more recent development than Lupin's tool, which is getting a bit out-dated now. Glad to be of help. Keep up the excellent work. :-) Lradrama 17:03, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Celine Dion picture[edit]

I can see that I shouldn't have treated those edits as vandalism. It was a combination of misreading the "FUC#8WIKIPEDIA#FUC#8WIKIPEDIA" (not the most helpful of edit summaries in my eyes, as well as "BULSHIT: Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because it shows the subject of this article and how the event depicted was significant to the general public" which seemed to be an edit summary arguing to include the picture being used to disguise a deletion. Since I had already been in the mode of deleting references to her bitchiness, her fellatio skill and drug addictions all day long, I wasn't assuming much good faith anymore.Kww (talk) 21:26, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your question[edit]

It is permissable to block an account if every contribution has been blatant vandalism, but many admins are hesitant to do it. It really depends on how exaggerated the vandalism is. I tend to be one of the folks who'll do it a little more freely, and it's gotten me in hot water a couple of times. :-) - Philippe 19:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
