Co-nomination[edit]

The user who is interested is Where; if you're happy with him involved I'll send him the link to this page. --Xyrael T 09:19, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Petros471 14:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is there anything that I can do to help? :) -- Where 14:36, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well you could point out what you think Xyrael has done well (and if relevant anything that needs improving). Things like example diffs that show the type of work he has done, and things like posts on AN/ANI/AFD etc. that show an understanding of policy/common sense. Any particular reason why you wanted to (co-)nom? Petros471 16:40, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The main reason I wanted to co-nom was that he has shown himself to be a kind and trustworthy user in my interactions with him, and I think these are very good qualities for an admin. In addition, the fact that he does so much vandal-fighting means that he would certainly benefit from adminship. I'll gather some diffs that show familiarity with WP policy a bit later. -- Where 15:16, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some diffs: AFD [1][2][3]

MFD [4]

Mediation (he is an "aspiring cabalist") [5]

RFA [6]

Willingness to accept being overruled by other members of the community by being gracious when an article that he spent a lot of time working on was rejected by the Wikipedia signpost staff [7]

Xyrael is also in the welcoming committee and in concordia. -- Where 15:40, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Where, thank you very much for the kind words. They mean a lot to me, as I'm being useful for once. --Xyrael T 16:22, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem; you deserve them :). -- Where 16:54, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On the main page, you're right about the VP moderation, but I'd also like to note that I'm a regular face on #wikipedia-bootcamp; I have autovoice there. I'm also around most of the Wikimedia channels for most of the time I can get to a computer with PuTTY, although I'm not a channel operator anywhere yet. --Xyrael T 20:12, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On my signature[edit]

Thanks for the thoughts on this. The text-decoration is to stop it from becoming underlined, although I think this could possibly be removed. The colour is to put the whole thing in grey, because this is how I see it in my skin and I like to show this to others, but if you have a problem with that then I'm sure it can be changed. My signature is transcluded from User:Xyrael/Sig, which is semi-protected, so it's not hard to change - feel free to take a copy of that and see if you can cut out some unnecessary stuff. Again, thanks for your comments. --Xyrael T 09:22, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've realised that the text-decoration does nothing at all, so I've totally removed it. I'm seeing if I can cut down the other code too somehow. --Xyrael T 09:26, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've managed to cut out another font tag. It's now a lot smaller. Will this be okay? --Xyrael T 09:30, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some tests:

  • Xyrael T - your current one
  • Xyrael T - with the font color="#696969"> tag removed. To me this looks exactly the same, the default blue is used.
  • Xyrael T - changing the colour to red. Shows that setting up the font tags like this doesn't work (click edit to see the code).
  • Xyrael T - nesting font tags obviously doesn't work. See here for how it does.
  • Xyrael T - personally I'd just leave it as this simple version with the talk link only.
  • Xyrael T - however if you want the ESP link then I'd just stick with this one (as second one above). It just about fits onto one line in my edit window.
Hmm, I'm annoyed about that not functioning with wrapping it in the font tag, but in the interests of having a shorter signature (I do agree that this makes more sense), I'll get rid of the superflous tags now. Thanks. --Xyrael T 17:28, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I'm just starting your namespace review, but keep getting distracted! There is a massive AFD backlog as well, so I might go and do that for a bit. I'll post my progress so far on the main page then. Petros471 17:42, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the time you've put into this; I'm very grateful for it. I agree with those comments on my contributions, and I too feel that these are the biggest barrier to a successful nomination. However, we have plenty of time to iron out things like this as none involved are in any rush. I have decided to try and get more involved in WP:3O, which may help to boost my article talk edits for those voters suffering from editcountitis :) --Xyrael T 16:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, my signature has now changed to this: —Xyrael / 19:20, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Issues with holidays[edit]

It's possible that as you come back from holiday, I will go on it. I'm away from 15th to the 22nd of August. If we find that this does occur, we have two options: wait until September-time, which is when I will get hit with coursework by the bucket-load (I'll still be editing WP, but an RfA may be a bit too much), or we go ultra-early as in just before the you leave. I think I could get my article edits up in that time if I really went at it, but it's up to you. Thanks. —Xyrael / 20:45, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not actually sure quite what date I get back, but we might just about be able to squash it in between then and you going (I'll need to check). If that's not possible I think it has to be up to you about going early or later... Petros471 20:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, please let me know when you've found out. —Xyrael / 16:09, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back the 12 August, so out goes that idea... It would probably be better to leave it for the longer wait if you want to play it safe, but if you want to give it a go soon (and then retry in 3 months later if it doesn't work out) then I'm willing to do that. Petros471 18:02, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
May I ask what time you are leaving? It'd be good to work out our latest possible date before, and the earliest possible after so I can get a feel for the situation. Know what I mean? —Xyrael / 18:42, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
