Family roots [1] comes first from Duchy of Samogitia and after appears high ranks in Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The oldest known ancestors in the family tree is Stanisław Giniatowicz Piłsudski born in 1530 and his brother Marek Ginet (Ginetowicz). So original family name was GINET or GINIOTAS or GINEITIS in Lithuanian. This family name also used Bronislav, brother of Jozef when he published book „Lithuanian Crosses“ (Ginet-Pilsudski B. Les croix Lithuaniennes // Schweizerisches Archiv für Volkskunde. Basel, 1916. Bd. 20.) S. [2].

GINIOTAS was between other representatives of ARIOGALA [3] land that signed peace treaty between Samogitia and Crusaiders in year 1390 in Konigsberg [4]. ARIOGALA land border is not clear today. Distance from county center to PILSŪDAI is 70km, so this GINIOTAS could have connection to the Ginet-Pilsudski family.

Bartłomiej Piłsudski g. apie 1560, "starosta upitski" – was rather Starost of UPYNA (starosta Upinski?) [5] [6] that is 5km from PILSUDAI were his father took family name. UPYTE is in 163 km from PILSUDAI, so this was probably misspelling.

ŠILALĖ [7] estate was one of the oldest and the longest belonging Ginet-Pilsudski family estates since 1711–1712 when part of the estate was acquired by Ferdinand Ignac Pilsudski (1670-1719) from Jurgis Valavičius in 1712. The second part of the ŠILALĖ estate F. I. Pilsudski gifted to his sister Emercjanna. He also owned lands in VIEŠVIENAI and TELŠIAI [8] county. His soon Liudwik got this lands and gave to his brother Franciszek (1713-1791).

Liudwik Pilsudski was secretary in Duchy of Samogitia (pisarz ziemski żmudzki), the owner of PAJŪRALIS [9] estate and founder (1750) of the city Catholic church [10].

Jozef Klemens Pilsudski stayed nearby in the family ADOMAVAS [11] estate (4 km from PAJŪRALIS) after returned from SIBERIA in 1892.

Franciszek Pilsudski (1713-1791) was The Cupbearer at Grand Duchy of Lithuania and The Chairman of the Tribunal. He funded ŠILALĖ catholic church [12] [13] He owned Šilalė, Viešvėnai, Laukuva, Aukštieji Gelgaudiškiai, Putviai and several other estates in 1790.

His only son Jan Chryzostom Pilsudski (1770-1837) was The Chamberlain in Duchy of Samogitia. 1794 he has bought Čiobiškis estate [14] [15]. His portrait still kept there.

Jan Chryzostom Pilsudski gifted land to build ŠILALĖ Lutheran church in 1806. [16]

There is opinion indicated [17] that Józef Wincenty Piotr Piłsudski had troubles after uprising of 1863. He rented out Adomavas estate and moved to Zalavas estate near Pabradė. Later Zalavas estate burned and family moved to Vilnius (Wilno).
