Summary

Description

Parka of caribou skin. Inuit women in Alaska had knee-length dress-like parkas with straight edges. Two gussets of white caribou skin on each side of the hood resemble walrus tusks. The edges are of wolverine skin. Cotton dress, a so-called Mother Hubbard, introduced by missionaries around 1900. Boots of depilated sealskin.

Gift from polar explorer Knud Rasmussen, 1926
