Αφού το ανώτερο στρώμα ελαφρόπετρας είχε ξεπεραστεί για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα, το ανώτερο στρώμα ήταν πολύ εύφορο, καθώς η υγρή ομίχλη ή ακόμη και μια μικρή ποσότητα καθίζησης διαλύει πολλά ορυκτά στην ελαφρόπετρα. The fifth mayor eruption since 650 ka was the Minoan Eruption at 3,5ka, which covered the island under meters of pumice.
After the top layer of pumice had been weathered for a long time, the top layer was very fertile, as wet fog or minimal precipitation dissolved many minerals. Plants flourished all over the island, even demanding vine plants (Santorini (wine). Deutsch: Santorin, griechische Vulkaninsel mit großer Caldera im Ägäischen Meer. Der seit 650 ka fünfte, große Vulkanausbruch, spätbronzezeitlich vor 3,6 ka, (Minoische Eruption) begrub die ganze Insel unter meterdicken Bimsstein-Schichten. Sobald die oberste Schicht Bimsstein verwitterte Eigenschaften hatte. war sie sehr fruchtbar, weil sich die mineralischen Bestandteile durch Nebel oder schon bei geringen Niederschlägen chemisch lösten und seitdem sehr gute Bedingungen für viele Pflanzen existieren. Sogar die anspruchsvollen Weingewächse (Santorins Wein) gedeihen auf der ganzen Insel. |
