The photo was published in the March 21, 1965 issue of The San Francisco Examiner without a copyright notice for the photo itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. See [1]. The photo is cropped to only the portion that was published in that newspaper. This is out of an abundance of caution to avoid copyright infringement. The largest possible crop is used. The photo was published in the newspaper in color (note the "-COLOR-" stamp in the link to the newspaper), so the color may be kept without risk of committing copyright infringement.

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published in the United States between 1929 and 1977, inclusive, without a copyright notice.
