From 1927 until the 1966 orange on blue bases came out New York's license plates would alternate between black on yellow-orange and yellow-orange on black. During this era tabs to revalidate certain years would be the same color but reversed from the baseplate. New York plates now only displayed the last two digits of the year and would continue until 1938.
