Description
English: English Copernican Armillary Sphere c.1700 Silver, brass, steel, ebony and ivory; with shaped casket of lignum vitae, brass and ivory. Signed, "I. Rowley Fecit"; undated. This armillary sphere illustrates the Copernican planetary theory, and is similar in design to the larger Copernican armillary sphere by Rowley (see Inv 22258). There is a separate graduated arc for measuring altitudes. inventory number: 22252
