Het is controversieel omwille van haar verheerlijking van het Belgische koloniaal verleden. Dit detail verbeeldt hoe een Belgische soldaat een Congolees tegen een Arabische slavendrijver beschermd en maakt deel uit van een iconografie die als apologie voor het Belgisch kolonialisme diende.
English: The monument for the Belgian Pioneers in the Congo is a monument in the Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels to commemorate the efforts of Belgians in Belgian Congo. It is highly controversial because it romanticizes the Belgian colonial project. This detail depicts a Belgian soldier protecting a Congolese against an Arabic slaver and belongs to an iconography part of colonialist apologetics. |
