Summary

Description
English: Middlesbrough 1st railway station (site), Yorkshire
Opened in 1830 by the Stockton & Darlington Railway as the original terminus of the line from Darlington, this timber-built station shed closed in 1837 when it was transferred to nearby Commercial Street. View south west towards Thornaby and Darlington. The built environment has changed a lot in the intervening years but the railway station near Watson's Wharf was believed to have been very close to here. Until 1834, trains were only horse-drawn but from 1834, most trains were steam-hauled, except on Sundays!
