Français : Le bâtiment d'origine a été construit au centre de la ville historique de Potsdam à la demande de Frédéric le Grand en 1771-1772 après le Palazzo Barberini, Rome, adapté par l'architecte Carl von Gontard. Deux ailes ont été ajoutées au palais au milieu du XIXè siècle. Au cours des années, le bâtiment a hébergé des expositions d'art, une bibliothèque, des concerts, un cinéma.

Il a été largement détruit en avril 1945 lors d'un bombardement. Les ruines ont été démolies en 1948 et l'espace est resté vide.

En 2005, la ville a décidé la reconstruction du bâtiment avec des façades identiques à l'original (architectes : Hilmer & Sattler et Albrecht). Le financement a été assuré par la fondation Hasso Plattner. Les locaux ont été aménagés pour y accueillir un musée moderne et une partie de la collection du mécène allemand Hasso Plattner.

Deutsch: Das ursprüngliche Gebäude wurde im Zentrum der historischen Stadt Potsdam im Auftrag Friedrichs des Großen in den Jahren 1771-72 von dem Architekten Carl von Gontard nach dem Vorbild des Palazzo Barberini in Rom errichtet. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der Palast um zwei Flügel erweitert. Im Laufe der Jahre beherbergte das Gebäude Kunstausstellungen, eine Bibliothek, Konzerte und ein Kino.

Es wurde im April 1945 bei einem Bombenangriff weitgehend zerstört. Die Ruine wurde 1948 abgerissen und der Platz blieb leer.

Im Jahr 2005 beschloss die Stadt, das Gebäude mit originalgetreuen Fassaden neu zu errichten (Architekten: Hilmer & Sattler und Albrecht). Die Finanzierung wurde von der Hasso-Plattner-Stiftung bereitgestellt. Die Räumlichkeiten wurden für ein modernes Museum und einen Teil der Sammlung des deutschen Mäzens Hasso Plattner umgebaut.
