Summary

Description
English: The original manuscript of the poem 'High Flight', by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. This is a letter he sent home to his parents during World War II. The original has been kept at the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB by Dayton, Ohio. The source of this image is the digital archive maintained by the US Library of Congress. The letter is signed, and dated 3 September 1941 ("3-IX-41").

NOTE: This version of this image has been DIGITALLY ALTERED to remove markings made upon acquisition by the Library of Congress in 1943. The justification for this alteration is that the letter now is much closer to the appearance it had when his parents had received it in 1941, and remained in the Magee's possession until it was gifted to the US government in 1943 (per note in the bottom left corner which has now been removed).
