Summary

Description
English: A print by Heinrich Leutemann that depicts George Drumgoole Coleman's encounter with a tiger while on a surveying trip in Singapore. Accompanying a 1865 article titled "Die Tigernoth in Singapore" in the German popular broadsheet, Die Gartenlaube, it captures the dramatic moment where a tiger leaps out from the forest undergrowth and knocks over Coleman's theodolite. It has been suggested that the incident was possibly exaggerated, or it might not have happened at all, demonstrating the European imaginary surrounding the dangers of the jungles in Southeast Asia.
