Summary

Description
English: Due to the fact that Self Capacitance only detects if a sensing conductor has been touched, when detecting three fingers, three x-axis readings and three y-axis readings are obtained. The three fingers can be at any of the 9 intersections of these axes . Three are true, and 6 are false ("ghosts" ) .

The true position of the three fingers can, however, be disambiguated by targeting Mutual Capacitance techniques at the 9 positions in contention . Only the true positions will give a touch reading.

This technique can be extended to four or more fingers.
