| Description | A Grumman F9F-6 Cougar fighter of fighter squadron VF-24 Corsairs after having just landed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CVA-9) in the summer of 1955. Essex was on a regular deployment to the Western Pacific with Carrier Air Group Two (CVG-2) from 3 Nov 1954 to 21 Jun 1955. In 1960 VF-24 would be redesignated VF-211 Fighting Checkmates. |
