| Description | A screenshot of the new Planechase gameplay mode in Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013. Planechase is a four player free for all which for the most part follows the rules of a standard four player free for all; however there is a deck of plane cards in the center of the field, at least one of which is active at all times. The active plane card (or in some rare cases, cards) modifies the gameplay by imposing additional rules as long as the card is active. Cards also have activated abilities, which occur when a player rolls a dice and gets the correct symbol (not shown). The active card is changed out for the next one in the pile when the same dice rolls on a different symbol, seen facing the screen on the blue dice next to the plane deck.
In the screenshot, the player character (Sven Manguard) has just played a creature which upon being summoned allows the player to destroy a target artifact or enchantment. The player is targeting an equipment type artifact that is equip by another player's creature. The purple-white line and orange highlighted border indicate the targeted artifact. It is worth noting that two players have over 20 life because of the activated ability of the previous (not shown) plane card. |
