| Object history | El cuadro fue exhibido en la Exposición del Coloniaje, organizada por Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna en 1873, posteriormente fue comprado por el Consejo de Bellas Artes en 1896 y transferido en 1930 desde el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes al Museo Histórico Nacional, de cuya colección forma parte ahora. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Notes | El catálogo de l a Exposición del Coloniaje califica al cuadro como “uno de los mejores retratos pintados en Chile por Monvoisin”. El obispo Elizondo es descrito en ese documento como un “cura de San Fernando muchos años. Allí acumuló una fortuna que después se hizo considerable. La viveza y flexibilidad de su genio y su talento le hicieron figurar desde muy temprano en la política, pues fue uno de los secretarios del Congreso de 1811 y varias veces desempeñó la vicaría general de la diócesis de Santiago hasta que fue electo obispo de Concepción”. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
