I ( User:disrepdog ) believe this image qualifies for fair use in the The Dark Age article because:

1. No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information.
2. The image, used here on the non-profit Wikipedia to illustrate the cover of the book is highly unlikely to cause any problems for the publisher, author or designer # The image does not inhibit the marketing or promotion of the book.
3. The cover is already published, at [1].
4. The material is relevant to the article The Dark Age, and thus encyclopedic.
5. The author Mark Chadbourn has given the User permission for the image to be used.
6. Users are reminded that this image should only be used in the article namespace, and must meet WP:FUC when doing so.
7. This image is properly attributed and tagged.
