Object history
Deutsch: Obwohl Kaiser Karl IV. den Grafen von Werdenberg als damaligen Ortsherren 1376 die Erlaubnis zur Stadterhebung erteilt hatte, erlangte das schon im folgenden Jahr an die Reichsstadt Ulm verkaufte Langenau erst 1848 endgültig den Rang einer Stadt. Das Stadtwappen ist seit 1886 belegt. Das springende Ross in seinem oberen Feld erinnert an die einstmals bedeutende Pferdezucht. Auf frühere Ortsherrschaften weisen die dreilatzige silberne Fahne der Grafen von Werdenberg-Sargans und das von Schwarz und Silber geteilte Ulmer Wappen hin. Nach Mitteilung des Bürgermeisteramts stehen die vom letzteren abgeleiteten Flaggenfarben seit 1886 fest.
