| Description |
Nederlands: Foto. Vanaf 1880 ontwikkelde Medan zich in hoog tempo. Er waren toen al zo'n 60 winkels, vaak in handen van Chinezen. In 1885 begon er een krant te verschijnen. In 1888 volgde een agentschap van de Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij. Nu vestigde de Sultan van Deli zich hier ook en liet er zijn Maimoon Paleis bouwen (1888). En natuurlijk vestigden zich hier allerlei cultuurmaatschappijen, zoals de Deli Maatschappij, de Deli Plantersvereeniging en de Algemeene Vereeniging van Rubberplanters ter Oostkust van Sumatra (AVROS).
