Summary

Description
English: A view south over the southern approach to York railway station, from the top of the 54 metre high Yorkshire Wheel, that was installed at the National Railway Museum in York. It was sited 53°57′35.81″N 1°5′44.42″W / 53.9599472°N 1.0956722°W / 53.9599472; -1.0956722 next to and in line with the southern wall of the museum's Great Hall. Construction started in March 2006 and the wheel operated from 12 April 2006 until 2 November 2008, being dismantled shortly afterwards. York racecourse is in the distance, with Eggborough power station just about visible on the far horizon. A solitary locomotive belonging to Direct Rail Services is the only vehicle visible in the station. The dark building in the lower left corner is York Integrated Electronic Control Centre.
