Summary

Description Flag, Hart's Battery, Old State House Museum Collection. Note: This Confederate First National pattern flag represented "Hart's Battery," also known as the "Dallas Artillery" which was organized at Dallas, Arkansas (Polk County), in August, 1861. Hart's Battery fought at the Battle of Pea Ridge, where it lost its guns and its flag. The battery was first disbanded on a charge of dishonorable conduct in the face of he enemy, but was later cleared and was allowed to reorganize in time to be captured again at the Battle of Arkansas Post on January 10, 1863. After the battery members were returned in a prisoner-of-war exchange, the unit was reorganized and re-designated as the 2nd Arkansas Field Battery.
