Description1960 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop (26164518923).jpg
Skymist Blue.
The second generation Thunderbirds were built from 1958-60, nicknamed the 'Square Bird', they had a new angular profile with quad headlights, they were now bigger and heavier, two feet longer than the first generation two seat roadster. The new Thunderbird was now a four seater, it was very low and now available as a fixed-roof pillarless hardtop or a convertible. To accommodate the higher transmission tunnel that was required in such a low car, Ford used it as a styling feature, building in a full-length center console featuring ashtrays, switches etc. New FE engines were also introduced in 1958.
For 1960, the grille was revised again, now with an egg crate background with solid cross bars in front, behind the tail lights got an egg crate look too, just 'Thunderbird' on the door now, but sergeant stripes at the rear of the rear quarter, a sunroof was now an option.
