[WikiEN-l] Varied topical treatments

The discussions on categorization - LittleDan is right on about WP being
well written - not well organized. Basically people seem to think that there
might be a better way to have some organization and structure be integrated
into the automation - like some kind of better way of designing a
heirarchical tree of related subject articles - This would no doubt be
welcome is someone could actually code those additions up and work them into
the existing wikiware...

The codecs - apparently Ogg Vorbis is good for music - providing similar
compression rates as MP3 while sounding less lossy - but its not as good for
speech - as in a talk or lecture, or well known speech that might be free to
post - Small files like letter/symbol pronunciation, etc... could use Ogg
Speex - a sister to Vorbis. No doubt if WP wants to use these codecs there
should be info/recommendations on how best to implement them - and
instructions for their use.

The concern with media - although the dump file is huge - its not exactly a
cnet pop pick - and Jim would be charged by his isp for  bandwidth overage -
if the bandwidth goes beyond what he;s paying for (assuming hes got a
business broadband account - and doesnt own the backbone itself) - a recent
horror story - an author wrote a book for Adobe Golive - and decided to web
publish the 50 MB pdf - since it wasnt selling well... and wound up with
several thousand (near 10K) in overage charges by his isp. The book was
apparently right in that grey area between 'woudnt spend 25 bucks on it' -
'and will download it in a heartbeat'. Anyway - beefy-sized media - if
popular - can get out of hand fast - is the point.
