DescriptionArch in Royal Marines Memorial Garden.jpg
English: Arch in Royal Marines Memorial Garden. Plaque reads "The Franceville Rose-45 Commando RM. On the 7th June 1944, 45 RM Cdo suffered its greatest loss during the Normandy Campaign in the village of Merville-Franceville-Plage. Amidst fierce fighting they found shelter in a building in Franceville on which a rose was growing. While on a reunion visit to the region in 1997 cuttings were taken from this rose which was found to be still growing on the building. This rose was planted here close to 45's Memorial where it is a poignant reminder to those lost comrades."
