influence on NZ culture[edit]

influence on NZ slang/quotes[edit]

MY WIFE![edit]

The Big Show has revived the saying my wife from the 2006 movie Borat by all members loudly exclaiming MY WIIIIFE! whenever someone says my wife or something relating to wives.[2]

Backbone[edit]

This is a quote the big show uses for a particularly heroic/important member of society that also is hard working and staunch often referring to Tradies(NZ slang term for tradesman) and farmers. It originated in one episode of the Huaraki big show where they referred to certain people as the backbones of society, this then got shortened to backbone.[3]

Da-Doosh[edit]

Da-Doosh is an exclamation popularized around New Zealand with an unknown origin, that can refer to the drum beat in a song, an exclamation of excitement, or the act of beating someone up, but is often used in other contexts.[4]
