Summary

Description
English: Edge vs small set expansion. The 16-vertex hypercube graph shown has edge expansion 1 (left), because the eight blue vertices have eight edges connecting them to the rest of the graph, giving the ratio edges/vertices = 1. However, its small set expansion is 2 (right), because for this graph and the smallest ratio of edges to vertices among sets of at most four vertices is given by the four blue vertices and eight edges shown, giving the ratio edges/vertices = 2.
