Yuddho (or Juddho; lit.'War') is a 2005 Indian Bengali language action-thriller film written and directed by Rabi Kinnagi. Produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films, it stars Mithun Chakraborty and Jeet, two biggest superstars of Bengal for the first time together, along with Debashree Roy, Koel Mallick, Rajatava Dutta, Bharat Kaul, Kaushik Banerjee and Sumit Ganguly.[5] The story revolves around a police officer who is charged with false accusation of murdering his wife and imprisoned as he has been investigating a rape case that involves the younger brother of a powerful MLA. The officer then manages to evade the prison and get his revenge.

The screenplay and dialogues of the film was written by N.K. Salil. The music of the fims was composed by Jeet Gannguli, with the action sequences by Judo Ramu.[2] It was an all time blockbuster at the box office with a long run consisting of 180 days in the theatres and also became the highest-grossing Bengali film of the year[4].

Massively, Yuddho got postive reviws from the critics and audiences. Choreography of the car and bike chasing sequences was praised by the critics, with performances by the entire cast partiularly the electrifying chemistry among Mithun Chakraborty, Jeet and Rajatava Dutta. After the broadcast of Sangeet Bangla, all the songs of the film aired on it and became chartbusters breaking all records during it's release.

Plot[edit]

DSP Agnishwar Ray (Mithun Chakraborty), a stone hearted and honest police officer who is very loyal to his duty, is called the 'Baap of all the criminals'. He keeps getting transferred due to his aggressive nature towards the criminals and ends up at Uttarpara police station marking his 25th transfer to a significant place. He lives with his wife Sandhya Roy (Debashree Roy) who does not put the blame on Agnishwar for his nature and always leads a happy life with him.

In Uttarpara, Agnishwar declares to all the criminals that he always gives only one chance to the criminals. If he meets with any criminal for the 2nd and 3rd time, it will be at hospital and morgue respectively. Ranjit Saha, the younger brother of the local MLA named Joy Chand Saha, abducts a girl when the girl was returning from a college function, and violently rapes her in his car, leaving her to die. Agnishwar arrests Ranjit. To take revenge, the MLA gets Agnishwar put in prison and his wife Sandhya murdered. There starts Agnishwar's revenge where he slowly kills all the persons responsible for putting him behind bars and killing his wife, ending with the death of the MLA and himself at the hands of Surya, who has by now become a police officer.

Production[edit]

Initially, the role of Mrs. Sandhya Roy was offered to Rachna Banerjee and then to Rituparna Sengupta. After both of them refused to play the role, it was offered to Debashree Roy.[6]
